UPDATE: Vlad caught something at the code camp over the weekend and is too sick to do his talk tonight. I have a couple of back up options, and we can decide between them tonight (we will put it to the vote). I have a talk on functional programming in Java and Scala, and another (with Bill Venners) on what's new in Scala 2.8 (practical guide to the new features). Of course, if anyone else wants to volunteer a fill-in, I am open to suggestions.

The next meeting of the Bay Area Scala Enthusiasts will be at Twitter
HQ in San Francisco on Monday, October 11th at 7pm.

Twitter HQ is located at 795 Folsom St., Suite 600, San Francisco, CA,
94107

Description: In addition to the usual content (lightning talks,
socializing, networking, etc.) this month we are pleased to announce that Vlad Patryshev will be giving an encore presentation of his Silicon Valley Code Camp talk (this weekend, by the way) on Monads, Functors and Categories in Scala and Java. Monads are a hot and often misunderstood topic right now, so this will be a good chance to learn about them.

Pizza will also be provided (and beer if we have time to pick it up).

I look forward to seeing you all there. As always, please arrive a little early to allow time to sign in.
