The next meeting of the Bay Area Scala Enthusiasts will be held at the LinkedIn offices in Mountain View on Monday 12th July 2010 at 7pm. Specifically we will be meeting in building 2025 in the space called "Unite". Please see the map below for directions and arrive a little early to allow time to sign in. (Please note, this map is to the usual location in 2027, I actually don't know which building is 2025 from the map, but it will be in this same courtyard). This month we are doing something exciting and new (in other words, my plan A fell through and I haven't had time to come up with a backup). Those who have been coming to BASE meetings for a long time will remember when many of the early meetings were like this (just show up ready to do some Scala learning). What I propose is that we throw the whole evening open to lightning talks. If you are working on something in Scala, at work or in personal time, have recently discovered something you think is cool, or just want to showcase your project or idea, then come along prepared to do 5 minutes on it. We will have a signup sheet on the night, but if you want to get your talk in early, please see the post on the Google groups about BASE meeting 27 and add your talk there. We should have time for a good number of talks. Pizza and refreshments are being kindly provided by LinkedIn, and we will have the usual socializing and discussion time. So come and join us, be ready to talk about your hobby horse, it's fun and this is a friendly crowd. I can start the ball rolling by volunteering a quick demo of some of the new features in the Scala 2.8 REPL that you might not be aware of (and if you are, the talk will be less than 5 minutes and something new will be along right after that) :-). If you have questions or can't find the room, try 650 265 7528, although I tend not to answer once the meeting has started (in other words if I am already talking). |
